It's Kicking In

I've been waiting for it and here it is, I am homesick. The honeymoon is over, with reminders from those icy roads. And I'm told that it will be like this until mid April if I'm lucky. Our winter solstice has not really begun, and Alaskans are saying that this is NOT the winter yet. On a positive note, the mountains look so beautiful with snow on. I now drink my coffee with a purpose, with this cozy feeling.

It's starting to get to me that I question my motives for moving to Alaska. Is it that I've always loved the summertime version of Alaska? I've loved going to this local eatery but it's getting a bit old already when I have it near me. It is a ten minute drive away and I just don't feel eager enough to eat there. I'm taking it for granted, this excitement has petered out.

 I must write this:

but....

The friends I've made, they're awesome. I never thought I'd be associated with them. The barriers I've faced makes me even more motivated with this thirst to prove people wrong. I've learned how to do little things I didn't give my time for. Like arranging a batch of carnation in a mason jar.  I've enjoyed some nights of my boyfriend's impulsive acoustic shows in the kitchen.  Especially the students I work with, I just cannot leave them this soon.

One of my awesomebutalittleodd friends, evidence #18. *he stuffed a couple of broccoli in front of his teeth, attractive and healthily delicious!*
(yup finally got new frame, will write that off on one of 23 before 24 post soon!)

Maybe it's time to get out of Anchorage and explore a bit for the weekend? I forgot what it was like to be homesick and how to cope with it.

  1. I say take a long drive or weekend trip somewhere new - it's taken me a long time to get to know Utah and stop hating it, and I always find beauty in the natural scenery just driving and taking pictures!
