Tattoo Aftercare: Using Olive Oil

After wrapping up the session I had, the artist wrote: "Leave on the bandage overnight and wash it- then apply olive oil or coconut oil when needed." I had to reread that, olive oil? Really? My first four pieces- I used the usual..white unscented lotion. I went between Vaseline's creamy lotion and some other lotion. The healing progress was grueling, it was long. It scabbed quickly and the lotion would accelerate the peeling progress. But all of that healing experience changed with this fifth piece, olive oil is the answer. It works perfectly and is a natural remedy which I like. The best thing? Itching phase did not start until a week later- and it only lasted for a day and half. I am a no tattooer myself, or a professional that tells you to use olive oil but do try and talk to your artist about it.  One of reasons why my artist prefer olive oil is because it allows more room for oxygen, your piece craves for oxygen- it speeds up the healing process. Using Vaseline creamy lotion is too thick and it seals the piece, not allowing any room for oxygen.

Anyways, my latest piece:

I got this flower from Botan Rice Candy:

  3. My boyfriend got a little sample thing from Ink Nymph, and it helped his tattoo heal GREAT! It has all natural ingredients, including olive oil and sunflower oil. I think it smells great, but he hates the smell haha. The lady who gave us the sample said to put a thin layer on the fresh tattoo, he has used it on two tattoos so far and still has PLENTY left
