New Mexico Trip
Besides in the glaring sun under 90's degree-something weather, New Mexico is a very lovely state! They said it's the land of enhancement and I say yes to that. I flown in to visit a dear friend of mine, Brianne. I grew up with her during our pre-school days to our college days then we partied our ways. She went to travel and participate in a program called frontrunners where she met her beau and conceived a beautiful child. When I first heard that she and her family is back in America- I knew now is the time for me to meet the family.
Flowed in to Albuquerque and took the hour ride to Brianne's current city- Santa Fe. The first thing I noticed was the architecture, they had beautiful building in adobe structure. Before I flown in, I decided to reduce my social media network intake by not bringing my laptop. In fact, I was already writing this entry in my journal. Also, Brianne don't believe in watching television and that helped me out with my hiatus I went on. The only downer was feeling the A7X itch which I couldn't handle- asked Brianne to lent her laptop so I could listen to some songs.
I have learned a thing or two on this trip:
1) New Mexico School for the Deaf is a very gorgeous campus with its own touch. Not only that, the campus has just undergone a renovation- where the newer interior will be completed before school starts.
2) Eating mindfully leads to a fuller stomach- really. Brianne and her beau hail from Vienna and they eat like Europeans by buying freshest ingredients possible. They go food shopping on a daily basis and they only get what they need. They do keep frozen stuff/ condiments at home but if we wanted sandwich for lunch- we go to whole foods to get the loaf and other stuff. I remember the night I finally arrived Santa Fe, in their little condo- I was starving and I opened the fridge, boy it looked empty! Eventually, I understood that approach because it works better and I am now home with my full fridge. Agh. On Sundays, they eat Austrian dishes and I enjoyed some chicken with breaded crust and potatoes served with ligonberry jelly! I also enjoyed eating locally at local places, shopping @ farmer's market, and going to local coffeehouses.
3) Exposure of social media with your own child: Brianne and her beau has decided to not expose their little child to facebook or any networks by not uploading pictures or getting photo tags of their child. They believe that it is their child's choice to decide eventually- if he/she wants to be exposed to it. It was a very interesting perspective and I enjoyed it very much.
4) You should not fight the fate, let it do its job- and that was after I watched "Brave" A very funny movie, a must-see! I give it four stars!
5) Town with this small-town charm always win me over, Santa Fe is that kind of town.
I also tried some new things and one of them was eating maple-bacon donuts. (No, that doesn't mean that I am not visiting voodoo donuts shop in Portland!) I loved Santa Fe's Whoos Donuts Shop, a local business! Their shop is really cute, especially the wooden sun set-up!
I truly enjoyed my stay, catching up the news with Brianne and meeting her beau/ child. I sure saw another perspective on: raising a child, eating, and living life.
Thank You!
